Air India launches direct Toronto-Mumbai flights

Air India has introduced its first nonstop flight between Toronto and Mumbai, creating the only direct link between Canada’s most populous city and India’s financial capital. The service, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, will offer nearly 2,000 weekly seats across the Pacific, deepening connections between two major diaspora communities.

The maiden voyage, flight AI192, departed from Toronto Pearson International Airport last weekend, attended by Mahaveer Singhvi, India’s Consul General in Toronto, alongside officials from Air India, Pearson Airport, and travel industry partners. The launch follows a period of record travel, with 128,000 round-trip passengers moving between Mumbai and Toronto from June 2025 through May 2026, according to flight tracking data.

This new route arrives as Canada and India push forward with economic ties. Ongoing talks for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) seek to double bilateral trade by 2030, opening doors for businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs in technology, education, and trade sectors. Air India’s initiative supports these broader efforts to strengthen commercial and cultural exchanges.

Travelers on the Mumbai-Toronto service will find enhanced cabins, including eight First Class suites, 40 fully flat Business Class beds, and 280 Economy Class seats. The aircraft also provides in-flight Wi-Fi, improving connectivity. Meanwhile, Air India has added its newest Boeing 787-9 to the daily Toronto-Delhi route, introducing Premium Economy seating—a first for the airline in Canada. These changes will boost premium seat capacity between Toronto and India by 71% during the upcoming winter season.

By early 2027, all Air India flights from Toronto will feature updated interiors, further modernizing the airline’s offerings. Currently, the carrier operates 20 weekly flights between India and Canada during the Northern Winter 2026-27 season, covering routes to Mumbai, Delhi, and Vancouver.

The new service responds to strong existing demand, as Mumbai serves as a key transfer point for Air India’s domestic and international network. For passengers, the direct flight cuts transit time and simplifies connections to other Indian destinations, including Delhi and Bangalore.
