Interrail Launches ‘Interrail Effect’ Campaign and Merger

Interrail launched a new brand campaign called “The Interrail Effect” early this month, positioning rail travel as a transformative journey rather than merely a ticket transaction, and promising that each ride can reshape a traveler’s outlook.

Travel as a catalyst for personal growth

The initiative draws on nearly seven decades of passenger stories that describe how crossing borders by train builds confidence, reshapes worldviews and forges lasting friendships, offering a rich archive of anecdotes that illustrate the power of rail-based exploration.

Millions have traversed Europe on Interrail, witnessing rapid shifts in scenery, language and cuisine within a single day—from the Arctic Circle to the Adriatic coast—often returning with tales of heightened self-esteem and fresh perspectives, and many recount that the experience sparked new ambitions back home.

Chief Brand & Commercial Officer Özlem Birkalan said, “We didn’t invent the Interrail Effect; travelers have been describing it for decades in their own words. What’s new is giving that feeling a brand identity,” emphasizing that the campaign is meant to capture a sentiment already lived by countless riders.

She added, “By uniting travelers under one name, our first campaign aims to encourage people to leave familiar routes, stay curious and remain open to the unexpected, because the best discoveries aren’t on any map,” a statement that shows the desire to inspire more adventurous itineraries.

Emphasizing Immersive Travel and Lasting Bonds

The new platform moves Interrail from a rail-pass seller to a brand that honors travel’s life-changing power. Interrail says that as journeys speed up and become staged for social media, genuine encounters and cultural exchange become more valuable.

The Interrail Effect celebrates what occurs when travelers go beyond surface routes, engaging in deep talks that shift outlooks, missing connections that spark memorable experiences, and friendships that endure past the trip’s end. These elements illustrate the brand’s focus on slower journeys that leave impressions.

Unified global identity and limited-time discounts

At the same time, Interrail and Eurail are merging into a single global brand, ending the former split where Eurail served only non-European residents while Interrail catered to locals, and creating a streamlined offering for anyone seeking flexible rail access across the continent.

From Thursday September 24 through Wednesday September 30 2026, the company offers a 50% discount on Global Passes valid for a month or longer, and a 15% discount on shorter Global Passes and One-Country Passes, a pricing strategy designed to make extended travel more affordable for a broader audience.

Encouraging deeper, slower journeys

Interrail believes the most vivid memories often arise between iconic sights, during an unplanned market visit, a train change in a small town, or a conversation with a local vendor, moments that frequently become the stories travelers share long after they return home.

The campaign will serve as a foundation for additional partnerships, community projects and content that reinforce the idea that the journey itself holds equal value to the destination, and future collaborations are expected to expand the network of cultural events tied to rail routes.

The promotional period ends on the final day of the offer, after which standard pricing resumes for all Interrail passes, marking the close of a limited-time push aimed at boosting long-duration travel across Europe.
