Montenegro wins ABTA Travel Convention for 2027

Montenegro will host the ABTA Travel Convention 2027, marking the first time the event will take place outside the UK. The three-day gathering, scheduled for 4-6 October 2027, will bring together British travel industry leaders at the Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay Resort, located on the UNESCO-listed Bay of Kotor.

The venue sits within one of Europe’s most scenic destinations, known for its fjord-like bay, medieval architecture, and dramatic mountain backdrops. Delegates will have exclusive use of the resort, which overlooks the Adriatic coastline and offers direct access to attractions like the walled Old Town of Kotor and the luxury marina at Porto Montenegro. The location also serves as a gateway to Montenegro’s five national parks, offering hiking, wildlife viewing, and outdoor adventures within a compact region.

Montenegro’s appeal extends beyond its environments. The country combines coastal resorts with alpine terrain, historic towns, and a growing reputation for authentic local cuisine. Strong air links from the UK, including direct flights to Tivat International Airport, just 13 kilometers from the resort, will make the event accessible for attendees.

The decision reflects Montenegro’s rising profile among UK travelers. The United Kingdom is one of Montenegro’s key strategic source markets, with tourist arrivals and overnight stays demonstrating sustained growth in recent years, supported by enhanced air connectivity.

Mark Tanzer, ABTA’s chief executive, said: “The Bay of Kotor is one of Europe’s most striking destinations, combining outstanding natural beauty with fascinating history, culture and hospitality. Montenegro is becoming increasingly popular with UK holidaymakers and Kotor Bay will provide a stunning backdrop for our flagship event. We look forward to working closely with our hosts to deliver an exceptional Convention, whilst giving delegates the opportunity to experience first-hand everything this remarkable destination has to offer.”

PhD Ana Tripković Marković, director of Montenegro’s National Tourism Organisation, emphasized the event’s role in deepening ties with the British market. “We are delighted that Montenegro has been selected to host ABTA’s Travel Convention in 2027. This prestigious event represents a significant opportunity to deepen our cooperation with the British travel industry and further strengthen the ties between our two markets. We are confident that hosting the Convention will provide an exceptional platform to showcase the richness and diversity of Montenegro’s tourism offering to leading representatives of the British travel industry, support new partnerships, and further reinforce Montenegro’s position as an attractive and competitive destination in this important market.”

Registration details will be announced in the coming months. The convention follows ABTA’s 2026 event in Madeira.
